Plaid & Bob Jaroc

Greedy Baby

BY Heidi ChapsonPublished Aug 1, 2006

This CD & DVD package is a clear case of the chicken or the egg. The new 5.1 surround-sound audio visual project by British IDM duo Plaid and Brighton-based animator and VJ Bob Jaroc is so cleverly crafted that it’s difficult to decipher what came first — the music or the visuals. The opening track reveals a cacophony of telephone numbers no longer in service, dialling, redialling, recorded messages, and a mishmash of furthering frustrations of being unable to reach that designated person. In general, both music and visuals featured in this package are hypnotically minimal, aside from the electro-inflected "To” and "The Return of Super Barrio,” which is accompanied by a Mexican wrestling animation. Nacho Libre anyone?
