PJ Harvey

"Red Right Hand" (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cover)

A few months back, we heard that PJ Harvey was going to cover Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds' "Red Right Hand" for the BBC drama Peaky Blinders. As expected, that track has now emerged.

Harvey's version adds a hint of baroque melancholia to Cave's menacing original, with gentle piano plinks that sound downright soothing. That being said, the melodies are as uneasy as ever, and the icy echo adds an undercurrent of eeriness.

"We're trying to make it feel much more European and British and PJ fits that bill perfectly," Peaky Blinders music producer Flood previously told BBC Radio 6. "I phoned Polly up and she was very interested. We're trying to deconstruct all of Polly's material and then weave it through, it's very cutting-edge and modern."
