Pigface

The Best Of...

BY I. KhiderPublished May 1, 2001

Time to drop this CD in your stereo, crank the volume and collide with a nearby buddy, full-tilt. The massive multi-contributor project of now-established artists and has-beens, which were all part of the dark, ecumenical movement of Pigface, have been compiled in this hefty two-CD package by Martin Atkins. In Atkins' words "...to give you an idea of the scope and the input from so many different people." This is a difficult task for such a varied sounding collective, yet the final selections do give a good overall impression of breadth. The threads of consistency are industrial styling and anarchic sentiments. This compilation embraces the rabid, the mediocre, the truly inspired, the rockin', distorted bellowing tunes and catchy mantras like "Mental Illness is the Road to Freedom." Tunes like "Kiss King" and "Steam Roller" show just how abrasively sublime these asylum patients can get. Comes with a nice collage booklet that has complete member listings, snippets and fan recollections. A vital artefact for Pigface enthusiasts.
