Phil Elverum Announces Tour, New Mount Eerie Album, The Glow Pt. 2 Reissue

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Feb 11, 2008

After cancelling a string of tour dates due to a family emergency late last year, Phil Elverum is hitting the trail once again and with some new items up for grabs in his roaming record/bookmobile.

Today, the Anacortes, WA artist previously known as the Microphones, and now more commonly as Mount Eerie, leaked the details of his upcoming ten-inch/CD, Black Wooden Ceiling Opening. According to his label, P.W. Elverum & Sun, the release features Mount Eerie’s "hard core” line-up, which includes Kjetil Jenssen of Norway’s now-defunct metallers Spectacle, Jason Anderson (Wolf Colonel) and of cours, Elverum himself. The recording stems from November 2006 and is supposedly "a new kind of music [Mount Eerie is] trying to unearth.” However, from the various live bootlegs floating around from this time, this likely means a whole lot of heavy riffage, double-bass drum and howling feedback.

And while no set release date for Black Wooden has been announced, the reissued and expanded The Glow Pt. 2, the Microphones’ seminal windswept epic from 2001, hits store shelves via K Records April 8, turning a beefy 20 tracks into a mammoth 40 over the course of two CDs or three slabs of vinyl.
