When Phil Elverum says hes going on tour, he means business, and in more ways than one. On Wednesday (September 3), his roaming merchant wagon/live show got its wheels rolling once again and not for some weak-ass "string of tour dates but for a gigantic stretch of the suckers, with him playing an impressive 61 Mount Eerie shows in three months. And as usual, hes got a pile of new releases up for grabs.
First, for the live dates themselves. On the road, the Pacific Northwesterner will be stopping by numerous U.S. cities and a trio of Canadian ones: Montreal on October 12, Ottawa on October 13 and Toronto on October 14. In between, Elverum is making a brief sweep of Australia and at the tail end hes heading over to Europe, where hes closing down the tour with an appearance at Norways 10th Bodø Hardcore Fest. As for touring partners, he has several, including Why?, Julie Doiron, Thanksgiving, Lucky Dragons, No Kids and Music Tapes.
With the sales items, Elverum will be adding his new album with Julie Doiron and Fred Squire, Lost Wisdom to the merch table and his collection of songs from his Norwegian period, Dawn. The former hits store shelves on October 7 and the latter on November 4, but if you cant make it to a show or or dont feel like waiting, you can order and get them promptly delivered now through Elverums shop at his record label/small business, P.W. Elverum & Sun. Also, concertgoers will be glad to know Elverum being the savvy businessman he is is now accepting credit cards at shows and assures us this is "no joke.
In even more Elverum news, he is getting ready to launch a new download store at his label site "where you can buy digital albums with extreme direct-ness, and featuring some rarities. He also has Mount Eeries first proper follow-up to his 2005 full-length, No Flashlight, scheduled for a spring 2009 release, titled as Winds Poem. On top of that, waiting in the wings is Song Islands Vol. 2, a compilation of Mount Eerie singles that's scheduled to be released "much later.
