The Libertines returned in a big way in 2015, delivering their Anthems for Doomed Youth LP after a decade-long hiatus. Never one to sit still for long, though, co-frontman and Babyshambles leader Peter Doherty has now unveiled plans to release a second solo album.
The forthcoming effort marks the follow-up to his 2009 solo debut Grace/Wastelands, and is expected out this fall through Clouds Hill. The album's current working title is Flags of the Old Regime, with a leading single set to arrive this spring.
Just over a year ago, Doherty released a touching tribute single to Amy Winehouse also titled "Flags of the Old Regime," with proceeds from the track going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation. Though a tracklisting for the upcoming record has yet to be confirmed, it's probably safe to say that his homage to Winehouse will be included in the new set of songs of the same name.
Before the new LP lands, Doherty will also be releasing a split single with PJ Harvey guitarist James Johnston for Record Store Day. Doherty's contribution includes a new recording of "The Whole World Is Our Playground," as well as a live rendition of the same tune from Clouds Hill Festival. The song was previously demoed throughout his time with the Libertines. Rounding out the RSD release, Johnston adds a song called "Dark Water" and a live version of "St. Martha's" that was also delivered at the Cloud Hill Festival.
