Pet Shop Boys To Release New Album in March

The Kompakt-approved Pet Shop Boys are set to step back into the spotlight next year, and with a pile of celeb guest stars in tow. According to a report by Fact Magazine, the electronic pioneers will follow up 2006’s Fundamental with a new studio full-length in March, and on board are some rather impressive helping hands, which include Xenomania (Girls Aloud, Annie, Franz Ferdinand), the Smiths’ Johnny Marr, Bob Stanley of Saint Etienne and, perhaps most surprisingly, Owen "Final Fantasy” Pallett.

The Fact report was unsure of which label would release the new, yet-untitled Pet Shop Boys’ effort: their usual home of Parlophone or their recent backers Kompakt, who this week released the Pet Shop Boys’ single "I’m in Love with a German Film Star.”

The new single put out by the cred-sporting Cologne label finds the UK duo taking on an ’80s post-punk cut by the Passions with the help of artist/filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood, who previously covered tracks by Serge Gainsbourg and Donna Summer with the UK duo. Along with this contribution, the single comes boasting a few remixes by some of Kompakt’s elite, such as Jürgen Paape, Mark Reeder and Gui Boratto.

In a recent interview with Resident Advisor, the Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant discussed the recent collaboration with Kompakt, saying: "I became aware of Kompakt at the beginning of this decade and began collecting the Pop Ambient series. I really like good electronic music and Kompakt has an inspiring commitment to it with so many great artists like Markus Guentner, Dettinger, Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, Gui Boratto and many more. The label also has a very strong visual identity, which I admire. It's very exciting for us to bring a track to Kompakt and have them commission remixes of it and release it.”
