Paul McCartney has teed up the next instalment in his ongoing archival reissue series. His 1997 album Flaming Pie will be reissued in a variety of formats July 31 through MPL/Capitol/UMe.
Leading the lineup of reissue packages is a massive 4LP/5CD/2DVD Collector's Edition box set that collects a remastered edition of Flaming Pie cut to vinyl at half-speed, an LP of home-recorded demos, and "The Ballad of the Skeletons" — McCartney's 1996 collaboration with Allen Ginsberg featuring Philip Glass and Lenny Kaye — released for the first time on vinyl and cut at 45 RPM with vinyl etching and poster.
The box, cloth-wrapped and numbered in an edition of 3,000, also includes a 128-page book containing previously unpublished images by Linda McCartney, expanded album artwork and liner notes. You can watch a complete unboxing video of the set below.
The remastered Flaming Pie will also be available as a 180-gram 2LP and 3LP set, and a CD and Deluxe CD package. The album will also arrive digitally on streaming platforms. All formats are now available for pre-order.
Flaming Pie was largely recorded following McCartney's involvement in the curation and release of the Beatles' Anthology series, and features collaborations with Electric Light Orchestra's Jeff Lynne, Steve Miller, Ringo Starr, revered Beatles producer George Martin, and son James McCartney.
As Macca would write in the album's liner notes, "[Anthology] reminded me of the Beatles' standards and the standards that we reached with the songs. So in a way it was a refresher course that set the framework for this album."
