Montreal-based singer-songwriter Paul Jacobs has released a new single, "After Dark," via Bonsound, ahead of an upcoming Canadian tour.

The song conjures a bed of shoegaze-y psychedelic soundscapes for Jacobs' sleepy vocals, but with a persistent mid-tempo beat that keeps it grounded and alive.

"My interpretation of the song is that it's about distracting yourself from your responsibilities by inventing problems and obstacles in your life," said Jacobs in a press release.

Jacobs' tour kicks off May 12 at the Dominion Tavern in Ottawa and includes dates in Toronto, Windsor, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Vancouver and Victoria, as well as an appearance at Quebec's Festival La Noce.

Jacobs' most recent album is last year's Pink Dogs on the Green Grass. There is no word yet on whether this single is in anticipation of a new album or if it will be a standalone release.
