Though it's not set in stone, a self-titled release generally marks the proper introduction to a band. Washington, DC's Paint Branch, featuring former Q & Not U members Chris Richards and John Davis, have reserved the self-referential title for their second offering, a five-song EP.
Paint Branch follows the duo's 2013 full-length, I Wanna Live, and was recorded in the summer and fall of 2014. Opener "Patented Plagiarists" and "Answer the Question" dip their toes in folky waters, the first arriving with a Cripple Creek groove and the latter being a crisp acoustic number that tumbles our way like the first fallen leaf from an autumn elm.
The outfit also redo I Wanna Live numbers "Orange Vapor" and "Tiny Death Wish," the latter modified from its quiet, piano and synth origins to now home in on equally hushed guitar tones.
You'll find the new tunes and a pair of redos down below, as well as on Bandcamp.
