Omar Rodríguez-López Announces Massive Solo Album Series

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 7, 2016

Despite having to cancel a few North American tour dates, El Paso guitar adventurist Omar Rodríguez-López is still committed to the current At the Drive-In revival. That said, he'll be maintaining a prolific solo presence too via a newly announced album series through Ipecac.

News of the solo record series arrived today (July 7), with a press release explaining that a number of previously unreleased records that Rodríguez-López made between 2008 and 2013 will see release this year. First up is Sworn Virgins, which arrives on CD, LP and as a digital download on July 15.

The release is the first of 12 albums to arrive between now and December, with due dates arriving every second Friday. Eventually, all of the releases will be compiled into a massive box set. Rodríguez-López said in a statement that he's excited to have Ipecac invest so much time and effort into the hefty project. This also looks to be just the beginning for the new partnership.

"After throwing around many different project ideas, this seemed like the best place to actually begin, on what will surely be a long lasting collaboration," he said of hooking up with Ipecac. "I can't think of a better home for these records or of another label crazy enough to put out this much material. The series also owes its blood to the hard work and talents of Jon Debaun and Chris Common, who diligently scoured through endless hard drives to find these albums and provide such stellar mixes."
