Old 97's 'Most Messed Up' (album stream)
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Hitchhike to Rhome, the debut album by the Old 97's, but rather than content themselves with retrospective reissues, the alt-country Texans are releasing a new album. Most Messed Up is due out on April 29 through ATO/MapleMusic, and it's available to stream now on Exclaim.ca.

The disc was recorded in Austin with production handled by Salim Nourallah. It features guest appearances from Replacements hero Tommy Stinson and Jon Rauhouse (Neko Case).

Opening cut "Longer Than You've Been Alive" starts the album off with a bang, as acoustic strums give way to raw distortion over the course of nearly six minutes. This sets the record's shit-kicking mood, as rootsy country tunes are injected with noise and ragged energy. "There's a lot of darkness hidden in this record," frontman Rhett Miller said in a statement.
