As previously reported, Matt Goud is just about ready to drop his second full-length under his Northcote moniker, but you can check out the self-titled LP in full right now on Exclaim! ahead of its official May 7 street date via Black Box Recordings.
Produced at Burnaby, BC's the Hive by Colin Stewart (Dan Mangan, Gold & Youth), the 11-song set is said to be "filled with grooving soul drums, horns, bouncy basslines, atmospheric guitar and sing-along group vocals." The tracks, meanwhile, were apparently penned from the passenger seat of a Dodge van and are full of "hope and positivity." Album track "Find Your Own Way," for instance, deals with the concept of overcoming anxiety in a "media-saturated culture."
"Drive Me Home" melds Springsteenian nostalgia with multi-part vocal harmonies and modern folk-rock textures, while "Knock on My Door" works out a smoother, late-night arrangement. Elsewhere on the LP, Kathryn Calder stops by to croon with the ruggedly voiced solo artist on "Only One Who Knows My Name," while other guests include former We Are the City six-stringer Blake Enemark, Marek Tyler on drums, and Olivier Clement on horn. You can sample it all down below.
Also of note, Northcote will be touring Canada from the end of May to the middle of June. You can peep the dates, which run from Victoria out to Montreal and back, over here.
