More Betterness

BY Stuart GreenPublished Oct 1, 1999

Recorded before Craig Shifflett split to become a Foo Fighter, one of Fat's most talented bands recorded this record. And it's easy to see how he made the jump from SoCal punk band to FM radio-friendly all stars. On this record, NUFAN, whose previous Making Friends and Leche Concarne discs were modern punk classics, focus more on their happy pop side than their angry punk side. Oh sure, More Betterness has the requisite guitar harmonics and occasional thrashing drum part, but mostly it is a pop record along the lines of Blink 182. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it seems that when they were pissed off punkers, their songs were stronger. Perhaps a rethinking of the album title is in order.
