It's been a long 16 months without live music, a gruelling ongoing stretch that Toronto-based filmmaker Danny Alexander has chronicled in his new documentary, No Tickets at the Door. Though the film is currently available to watch to Hot Docs members or CMW passholders until July 6, anyone can watch it during a public screening and Q&A on June 10, presented by Exclaim! and Wavelength.
As you can see from the poster, the film features a festival-ready lineup of members from several Toronto bands, including Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, Bad Waitress, Mother Tongues, Luna Li, TRP.P, Odonis Odonis, Hot Garbage, Kali Horse, Burner, Witchrot, Vypers and more, plus Sook-Yin Lee, promoter Dan Burke, Horseshoe Tavern owner Jeff Cohen, city councillor Joe Cressy and music sector development officer Mike Tanner.
The special event screening will be followed by a Q&A with Alexander, pHoenix Pagliacci of TRP.P, and Desiree Das Gupta of Kali Horse, hosted by local radio DJ Luca Capone. The event is free of charge, though viewers and supporters are encouraged to donate money and supplies to the Encampment Support Network.
