After years of delivering beats for high-profile hip-hop stars like Jay-Z, Common, Drake and Kanye West, producer No I.D. has revealed that he'll be affecting the rap world in a new capacity, as he's announced his new role as the executive vice-president for the iconic Def Jam label.
Before the MTV VMAs yesterday (August 28), the Roc Nation producer, also known as the "Godfather of Chicago hip-hop," revealed his new job title.
"I'm [now] executive VP of Def Jam," Billboard quotes NO I.D. as saying. "I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing and take it to another level."
Deeply entwined in the label's history, No I.D. says he's hoping to toast the past while seeking out new talent as well.
"Def Jam is a cultural staple," he added. "It's not just a label, it's part of the culture that I came up in and that I've been involved with for 20 years. It's very important that the next generation of executives grab it by the horns and keep it on track as it grows."
