Nick Luca Trio

The sound of an Arizonan hangover. Muggy, foggy, languid, vision and speech both blurred and slurred. Nick Luca is a staple figure around Wavelab Studios in Tucson, so it makes perfect sense that Howe Gelb and Calexico would be hanging out and that this sounds like a jazzier Giant Sand on opiates. Luca’s worked with both artists before on some of their best work (The Black Light, Chore of Enchantment), so it’s hard to tell who’s rubbing off on whom. Ultimately, that makes Little Town less distinguishable from plenty of similarly sexy, candlelit mood-makers. But fans of desert dopamine will dive right in.
