In Stereo

This Winnipeg quartet hover somewhere between the dream state of Sianspheric and the crunch of Chore; they toured with the latter this summer. Intense, heavy dramatics are offset by lilting, almost ethereal effect-laden guitars and extended passages of hypnotic, swirling guitars, loping grooves, and distant, reverbed vocals place the listener in the centre of a prairie snowstorm — frightening and beautiful at the same time, awesome in the true sense of the word. The finale “Space Suit” is a bit much, though — a 29-minute track comprising a ten-minute song, a six-minute drone and 13 minutes of crickets providing a soothing respite from the sonic storm.
