Neko Case, k.d. lang and Laura Veirs Team Up for Collaborative LP

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 29, 2016

Three of folk music's finest veterans have announced plans for a new collaborative album titled case/lang/veirs. As the title implies, the singing-songwriting supergroup consists of Neko Case, k.d. lang and Laura Veirs.

The new record is set to arrive on June 17 through Anti-. The origin story is simple enough — as a press release explains, lang sent an email to Case and Veirs, saying "I think we should make a record together."

Following immediate responses from Case and Veirs, the trio set to work writing and recording 14 new songs in Portland with Tucker Martine serving as producer. Sessions took place in lang's Mount St. Helens-facing loft and Veirs' dining room and backyard studio.

The first tease off the record arrives with the single "Atomic Number," featuring all three singers pitching in on vocals, backed by lush layers of orchestral instrumentation. The trio have also shared a trailer for the forthcoming full-length.

The newly announced project will also be taking their collaborative material on the road for an upcoming North American tour. Canadian stops are currently limited to a date in Victoria on June 28 and Winnipeg on August 14.
