Myagi

3 Years of Sunrise

BY Ashley HampsonPublished Nov 21, 2008

Canadian producer and DJ Myagi (aka Andrew Mavor) is no stranger to the world of dance music, having dropped sets across the globe, from Paris and California to Australia and China, and done remixes for the likes of the Crystal Method and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital, as well as hip-hop artists and indie bands. Climbing the ranks with his breakbeat style, Myagi's debut album, 3 Years of Sunrise, is best summed up as a tad bipolar. The album runs through down-tempo, laidback tracks such as "Heads N Tails," "Staring at the Sun" and "Sweet," hard-hitting house such as "Payback" and "777" and funk-infused vocal tracks "How to Test" and "Relativity." Though the different genres aren't necessarily that out of place thrown together on an album, they also don't sound all that amazing or come across as impressive. Sliding from down-tempo or hip-hop into something lazy and hazy is one thing but running right into a pounding house track is quite another.
