Montreal electronic music fans are no doubt excited about this year's upcoming MUTEK fest, which runs June 1 to 5 all over the city, but what about the rest of us? Unfortunately, not all of us can afford to skip town for a couple days to check out sets from the likes of Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Modeselektor and more. Luckily organizers thought of this ahead of time and will be taking the spirit of the fest on the road as Avant_MUTEK.
This year, Toronto and Vancouver will be experiencing the MUTEK treatment. A press release points to an April 2 stopover at Toronto's Drake Hotel as "the locale for a blazing night of funky house and other bass madness." Headlining the night will be acclaimed UK dubstepper Appleblim, who performed at MUTEK proper in 2009. Also joining the festivities will be Montreal-based house aficionado Bowly and Knowing Looks.
If you're impressed by the night and feel like making the trip to Montreal, festival passes will be sold at the Drake at a special, early bird price of $175 for a full festival passport and $100 for a weekend pass. You can also nab the early bird deal on the MUTEK website.
The West Coast will get its fill of MUTEK's electronic goodness April 9 at Vancouver's W2 Media Centre. Detroit house DJ Theo Parrish will head the event, while "proto-house disco-edit connoisseur" Jason Lev and the Love Dancing crew will also spend time at the DJ booth.
While dates have yet to be confirmed, Avant_MUTEK is planning on going international, with nights in Chicago and New York in the works.
