Joss Whedon followed Radiohead in creating pioneering online endeavours with his download-only three-part musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, now on DVD. Created with Whedon's musically-inclined brothers, it's a charming tale of evil intent as Dr. Horrible (pop cult MVP Neil Patrick Harris) battles his evil nemesis Captain Hammer (super-cheesy Nathan Fillion) and pines for sweet Penny (Felicia Day). Shot on the cheap with plenty of Whedon-loyal volunteers, Dr. Horrible's inspired parody of superhero tropes helped launch dozens of similarly DIY "evil-doers," some of which are featured on a loaded DVD. The most absurd DVD extra in recent memory is certainly the new, original "Commentary! The Musical" but Dr. Horrible deserves kudos for its clever accomplishments, not just pioneering spirit.
