The Muscadettes

'Side A' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 15, 2015

California-born, Montreal-raised twins Chantal and Kathleen Ambridge are set to unleash their Side A EP as the Muscadettes, and Exclaim! has got your first listen.

The sisterly pair definitely give off the sunshiney vibes of the West Coast on the new five-song collection, offering up a fresh combination of surf pop, garage rock and melodic grunge.

Opener "I'm in Love" plays like the lovechild of a Best Coast and Alvvays song, while "Growing Pains," "Pearl and Oyster" and "Honey Let Go" crank up the guitars and deliver an edgier, punk-tinged, descendants-of-riot-grrrl sound. "Like a Wave," meanwhile, provides some sugary respite from the noisier moments on the EP, opting instead for hazy harmonies and dreamy instrumentation.

The Muscadettes will be joining fellow Montrealers Nancy Pants for an album release show in their hometown on April 21 at Casa del Popolo, and you can find all the details here.

Running the gamut from aggressive to adorable, the new EP is short, sweet and the perfect way to ring in the spring. Give Side A a listen below before it officially arrives on April 21 via Costume Records.
