For lovers of the latest round of deep house there has been lots to relish over the past three years, and one of the most admired and distinct-sounding producers from that crop has been a young German who goes by the name Motor City Drum Ensemble. The alias belongs to Danilo Plessow, who has been wowing trend-seekers with his series of Raw Cuts twelve-inches, six tracks of streamlined, ultra-hooked house funk made up predominantly of samples from the Motor City's Motown era. The Raw Cuts were considered instant classics upon release, redefining how slivers of bygone organ keys, deep throated divas, funk breaks and old vinyl warmth could be layered into a miasmic mix of 21st century house. Along with those six tracks, this CD version collects three new tracks, plus another pair from Jayson Brothers, whom Plessow recently signed to his label, Faces.
