Motion City Soundtrack Return with 'Panic Stations'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 4, 2015

Long-running Minneapolis emo-punks Motion City Soundtrack have announced they're about to set sail with their sixth record, a nautical-themed platter titled Panic Stations. The album will be released through Epitaph Records on September 18.

A press release notes that the band started working on the follow-up to 2012's Go back in 2013. Recording sessions were underway by June of 2014, once the band hit Cannon Falls, MA's Seedy Underbelly North facility with John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile).

In addition to the album title, the new album is apparently loaded with several references to water and the ocean. Frontman Justin Pierre's lyrics are also said to present "an overarching idea of letting go and not being immobilized by your own thoughts." It's explained that he took influence from author James Frey's semi-fictional A Million Little Pieces and Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
