Morgan Packard

Moment Again Elsewhere

BY Andrea AyottePublished Oct 8, 2010

Berlin-based producer Morgan Packard comes out with his impressive third full-length release, Moment Again Elsewhere, on Ezekiel Honig's Anticipate label. Formally based in NYC, Packard combines his academic background in classical music, jazz and computer programming to create his modest, yet uniquely beautiful, voice. Moment Again Elsewhere was created entirely on Ripple, a software program he designed that allows him the flexibility to structure and produce his music in a more conducive way. The album starts off with an endearing, sentimental four-second clip of someone saying, "one, two, ready, go," with distant voices of children playing in the background. "Unveil" delicately unites piano melodies with electronic textures to create a sophisticated, optimistic, beat-fuelled track. "Allow" is a minimal piano composition with shuffling, soft rattles and accordion. "Moment" is a hypnotic, jazz-infused exploration of subtle, looping micro sounds and grooving saxophone melodies. Packard manages to combine various elements into beautiful, flawless compositions. This is a perfect album and is definitely one of the finest releases this year. Highly Recommended.
