Mocky

Navy Brown Blues

BY Heidi ChapsonPublished Oct 1, 2006

Mocky, a former Canadian who at one time was in a band called the Shits, has released his third solo full length album. It’s a record that will most likely appeal to more of the hipster crowd despite there being influences of old school R&B that run rampant throughout this 12-song endeavour. Aside from the kitsch, the cheese and the camp that resonates within the music, lyrics appear like, "I need a body double like the Olsen twins” or "I’m 20 seconds ahead like Klaus Nomi, I’m Burt Reynolds asking Loni to blow me,” which are hard to take seriously. But that’s all part of Mocky’s shtick I suppose, and in doing so, he grabs Feist, Jamie Lidell and Taylor Savvy to help flesh out his rhymes.
