Who are you?
Michelle McAdorey
What are you up to?
"Whirl" has just been fully released and made available, and work shall start early this spring on a new recording.
Hometown and current HQ:
Toronto.
Current fixations:
My web site, slippery vegetable dumplings with corriander sauce, saffron, heating the ghee and then waiting for the spices to pop, recording the sound of the spices popping.
Mind altering work of art:
Christian Marclay's video piece "Guitar Drag," "Bone Dreams" by Seamus Heaney, and Harry Smith's "Anthology of American Folk Music."
Most memorable/inspirational gig and why?
The Golden Melody Awards - imagine if the Byrds played ragas and were a duo.
What should everyone shut up about?
Winter.
Your greatest strength/weakness:
Astral projection.
Your vital daily ritual:
Espresso.
Guilty pleasure:
Reading horoscopes.
If I wasn't playing music I would be
I am still wondering.
Your most memorable day job:
I don't know if this counts. Being persuaded to attend the first day "talk" given by the "Bunny Mother" at the PlayBoy Bunny Club School - recruiting for croupiers and servers.
Best/worst advice received:
"Sit down, do it in your head - same result!"
I would drop everything to play a benefit for
The return of live DJ-programmed non-formatted radio, the great lakes, oceans, and farmers who refuse and protest the use and spread of genetically modified seed.
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
Ocean, lakes, freight train hopping, Montreal, sorrels, and the ability to build a good fire.
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band and/or bed? And have you?
Whining.
When I think of Canada I think:
Long trains, sprawling fields, big lakes, and sorrels.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Yes. You mean you need to ask?
Strangest brush with celebrity:
Bumping shopping carts with Smokey Robinson at the health food super store in L.A. - his cart was full of orange and green things only, he was very shiny and smiling, his eyes gleamed, he never blinked, and he moved his head in a strange slow-motion way.
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
My mom loves me. I hope yours does too.
