The long wait for a new Melt-Banana LP is almost over, as the Japanese noise-punk greats have finally announced their studio follow-up to 2007's Bambi's Dilemma. Titled Fetch, it arrives October 1 via A-ZAP.
A press release notes that the demo sessions for the record were completed back in the spring of 2011, but work on the LP was postponed following the devastating Fukushima earthquake. Since then, the band have been pared down to vocalist Yako and guitarist Agata, and their current work is apparently "juiced with electronics and post-rock production." Some wild touchstones referenced for the LP include Kate Bush, Walter White and post-punkers Wire, if the latter were "playing metal run through Wasp synthesizers and auto-tune."
Backed by a PC full of beats and god knows what else, the spazzy outfit make their return to North America this fall. The "2 do what 2 fetch" tour kicks off at Vancouver's Biltmore Cabaret on October 16 and will see them playing one more Canadian date in Toronto. You can see the tour schedule down below. It will be the first time the band have crossed the continent since 2011.
