Who are you?
Melanie Dane Fletcher, but please call me Mel.
What are you up to?
Playing soccer at the new indoor Barrie Sports Dome. Working for the York Region District School Board as a Developmental Handicapped Assistant for children with special needs.
Hometown and current HQ:
I live outside a small town called Angus, just west of Barrie, Ontario.
Current fixations:
Yoga, sky-diving, "Chicken Soup" books and using my video camera to document my life.
Most memorable/inspirational gig? And why?
I watched Hole perform at Edgefest 1999 at Molson Park. It pissed rain all day until Hole (the headliners) walked on the stage and the stars literally came out in the evening sky. Courtney Love has an amazing stage presence and the crowd fed off her endless energy. After the show I left feeling powerful, uplifted, inspired and felt like I could do anything.
What should everyone shut up about?
The Kurt Cobain conspiracy. He killed himself. Come on people, he wasn't murdered.
Your greatest strength/weakness:
Strength: I'm an extremely hard worker. I'm the opposite of lazy. My energy is endless.
Weakness: I have a huge mouth. I always tell every little detail about what I'm thinking or how I'm feeling. Sometimes my mouth gets me into trouble and I say things on a spare of the moment that I regret later.
Your vital daily ritual:
Taking my vitamins, drinking 2.5 litres of water and speed walk EVERY day.
Guilty pleasure:
Any kind of potato chips, except regular.
If I wasn't playing music I would be:
I would love to be a letter carrier for Canada Post so I could walk all day.
Your most memorable day job:
The last school I worked at, with children with learning disabilities was my most memorable job to date.
Best/worst advice received:
Best: Don't sweat the little things. Life is too short so enjoy every second like it's the last.
Worst: My high school co-op teacher told me not to pursue a career working with children. She told me I was no good at it. Man, I proved that bitch wrong!
I would drop everything to play a benefit for:
Animals, especially ones on the endangered species list, and for children.
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
My guy Pete, and dirty magazines.
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band and/or bed? And have you?
Someone who was being negative would get the boot. Yes, I've done it. This is not a personality trait but a bad habit and I'll mention it anyway I would give someone the boot for being a sloppy drunk. I have absolutely no time for drunks. They are obnoxious, annoying and I despise being around them.
When I think of Canada I think
Of all the beautiful trees, nature and wildlife. Also, the great Canadian music.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Yeah, I think there's a difference. Music is the best, but sex is better!
Strangest brush with celebrity:
I met Dave Grohl in 1997. I gave him a box of cool little gifts that I had collected for him and took a bunch of photographs of him.
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
My mom is very supportive and happy with whatever I do. But my mom does wish that I would dress up more. She thinks I'm way too casual.
