Today is April Fool's Day, meaning it can be pretty ticky to know what's real and not real on the internet. But since that's the way internet is basically every day anyway, we're taking the plunge and reporting that there's a new cat-fronted metal band called Cattera.
The band is led by a former street cat called Roope-Shakir, whose owner is Fearless Records product manager Anna Mrzyglocki.
"I knew Roope-Shakir had star power from the moment he entered my apartment," Mrzyglocki said in a press release. "I heard his emotion-filled meows and knew he needed to be the front cat of a metal band. It sparked a passion for A&R I never knew I had. People may think Cattera is just another 'industry plant,' but there's real talent here."
Today you can hear Cattera's debut single "Hunger of the Beast," which is down below. Yeah, there are some crushing riffs and intense drumwork, but there is indeed some sort of cat-like wails in there serving as vocals.
The press release somehow includes a quote from Roope-Shakir, who's learned to speak human to tell us: "I'm stoked to release my first track with Cattera, as I'm a huge fan of OG animal kingdom metal bands like Hatebeak and Caninus. I hope I can be an inspiration to all street cats who have something to say."
Joke or not, 100 percent of the track sales and any additional donations will directly benefit Whiskers-A-GoGo — a Brooklyn non-profit cat rescue group that got Roope-Shakir off the streets and into his forever home.
Check out "Hunger of the Beast" below, where you'll also find a behind-the-scene clip with Cattera. The band also have their own Instagram, and since that platform is best when it involves cat, we recommend you give them a follow.
