Matthew Dear Announces 'Headcage' EP, Gets the Drums' Jonathan Pierce to Guest

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 7, 2011

Well isn't this familiar. Matthew Dear just released his last EP back in the spring, and the electronic dark popper is already gearing up to drop another. This one is called Headcage and it will be out on January 17 via Ghostly International. The EP will lead up to a new LP titled Beams, due out sometime in 2012.

Headcage finds Dear teaming up with co-producers Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid, who have previously worked with the likes of Fever Ray and Blonde Redhead. It was recorded at the Rare Book Room studio in New York.

An announcement from the label promises that the title track includes "a dense, mutating cluster of breaths, whispers and assorted technicolor sounds." You can download or stream the song for free at the bottom of this page.

Elsewhere, Drums frontman Jonathan Pierce lends his vocals to the pop-centric "In the Middle (I Met You There)." See the full tracklist below, and stay tuned for more updates and details about Beams.

Headcage:

1. "Headcage"
2. "In the Middle (I Met You There)" (ft. Jonathan Pierce)
