Winnipeg folkie Matt Epp and his band the Amorian Assembly will release Learning to Lose Control on June 4, and as they he prepares to hit the road in Canada, the album is available to stream in full from Exclaim.ca.
The 12-song collection was recorded in Hollywood with producer Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, R.E.M., Willie Nelson). It features a guest spot from Serena Ryder on the song "When You Know," and a press release explains, "Matt and Serena met up in Los Angeles during the summer of 2011 and started talking about what it means to have the love of your life and how 'when you know, you know.'"
The material largely has an undercurrent of folk without adhering too strictly to traditional blueprints. It ranges from the atmospheric roots-rock of "Sleepwalking" to the sprightly pop-leanings of the title track to the acoustic slinkiness of "Use Your Head."
