A couple of weeks ago, we learned that long-running Connecticut pop couple Mates of State have a new album, Mountaintops, set for a fall release. At the time, we pondered whether the disc would continue with the calmer piano textures of 2008's Re-Arrange Us or if it would hearken back to their early, frenetic pop period. A new video for album track "Maracas" suggests the latter.
The new clip, which you can see below, features the band and some back-up musicians rocking some wriggly synth lines and busy maraca beats. The pseudo-live performance video itself tips its hat to the old British music show The Old Grey Whistle Test, which ran in the '70s and '80s.
If you're hoping to catch the band in the flesh, you will be glad to know Mates of State have also announced a stack of tour dates this fall. Starting in September, the group will hit up a number of North American clubs. Canadian stops include Toronto and Montreal, where the band will be joined by Suckers and Yawn. Check out the schedule below.
As previously reported, Mountaintops comes out September 13 on Barsuk Records.
