Mateo Murphy

Inside Out

BY Cheryl ThompsonPublished Nov 1, 2003

This is the second album from Mateo Murphy that succinctly embodies a continental techno house sound. If you’re looking for an album that will satisfy your hunger for both trance/ambient and house, Mateo has cooked up just the right melange for you. Simply put, there’s an alluring duality to this album. Somehow Inside Out is rhythmic enough to quench any thirst a house music fan may have but repetitive and hypnotic enough for the hardcore techno/trance fan too. On the flipside, if you can only appreciate an album for its lyrics, you won’t enjoy the repetitiveness of this lyrics-free album and probably label it as monotonous noise; but if you have an open mind to the future of electronica, you’ll accept Inside Out for its lack thereof.
