Masia One Gets RZA, Isis for 'Bootleg Culture'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 12, 2012

Four years have passed since Masia One delivered her sophomore set Pulau, but the T-dot lyricist is making up for lost time with the announcement of not one but two new LPs primed to hit retailers in 2012.

First up is Bootleg Culture, which will arrive June 19 through Merdeka Group. The 15-song set was primarily produced by Grammy-winning producer Che Vicious (50 Cent, Lauryn Hill), while "Chiney Money" was produced by Caphill Records and bonus track "The One" was handled by Rezza Brothers. The collection also finds Masia One collaborating with a number of artists, including the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA and former Thunderheist member Isis. You can check out the tracklist below.

While Bootleg Culture is poised to tighten up Masia One's MC skills, the record is also said to further her political activism. First single "Warriors Tongue," for instance, was "shot for and by artists living in an economically unstable section of the Philippines." You can also check out a video for the song down below.

It took four years to follow up Pulau, but Masia One will strike again this fall with another long-player, but her second LP of 2012 will swap rap for reggae. The as-yet-untitled set, described as a "dream project," was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studio, with locals Dubtonic Kru acting as the musician's backing band. A release date has yet to be set for the disc.

Masia One will also be touring throughout the year, with info on concert dates said to be on the way.
