It’s not always easy to embrace music that is so unapologetic in its aping of bands that are near and dear to us, but with the Mary Onettes it’s hard not to. Previous single "Lost” flawlessly combined their worship for New Order and the Bunnymen, and with this second single, well, you can still hear the Ian McCulloch-isms in Philip Ekström’s rich tone, and the synths are very Power, Corruption & Lies. But that jangle in the guitar, there’s no mistaking they’re adding the Smiths to their repertoire and it sounds not only great, but like it’s truly 1984 all over again. The Mary Onettes "Void”
