Crushin'

Marvelous Mark's new album, Crushin', is power-pop done right. The solo project of Mark Fosco, previously of Marvelous Darlings (which also included Matt Delong from No Warning and Ben Cook from Fucked Up), Crushin' is the follow up to 2014's Husband Material EP and is Fosco's debut record under the alias.

With hints of Teenage Fanclub, the Beach Boys and more than a few nods to Blue Album-era Weezer, Crushin' is a record that will play nicely throughout the summer, but for now brightens these short, dark January days. The album is wonderful in its simplicity: the jangly guitars and repeated refrain of "Sun Goes Down" are hooky as hell, while the guitar solo in "Doin' Fine" (the standout song on the record) grabs your attention and puts a smile on your face.

While some of the songs on Crushin' can feel slightly repetitive, it's never monotonous enough to hurt the album's momentum; indeed, it often helps the already catchy choruses stay in your head, long after you've stopped listening.
