As the previous release in this live series (Grrr!) were the crash and burn of sustained rock noise, Tok is the sound of machines chattering in bent rhythms working with a little more space and texture. The sounds are alternately in conversation and sustained accompaniment to fractured solos. Yoshihide and Tétreault leave lots of room for both themselves and the listener to think and breathe in amongst the washes of white noise and turntable percussion. In terms of the general arc of the CD releases, this series is becoming an exercise in the art of phrasing and dynamics as opposed to a greater variety of sounds. Itll be interesting to hear the third one where there is even more space involved. Stay tuned.
