Prolific prog-rock outfit the Mars Volta recently called it quits, but frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala has revealed he'll be issuing a solo LP sometime in the future.
The vocalist delivered the news over Twitter this past weekend, noting that he had just completed tracking three songs for the set at San Bernardino, CA's Seahorse Sound Studios with Noah Georgeson.
While he didn't detail the tracks too much, he did hint he's heading into new sonic territory. "Lots of desert ballad space jams, lots of harmonies, lots of lap steel and piano. Lots of AM radio love songs. Short bitter sweet luv songs," he wrote, adding "Be warned I'm not making a rock record. It might lightly rock but not like I'm known for."
Bixler-Zavala is singing and playing guitar on the record, which also features Gregory Rogove on drums, Jonny Polonsky on "acoustic/electric/keys/lap steel," and the Mars Volta's Juan Alderete on bass. Bixler-Zavala also added that he'll be heading out on tour at some point, though details have yet to be released.
As previously reported, former Mars Volta bandmate Omar Rodriguez-Lopez will be heading to Canada later this month with his new band Bosnian Rainbows . You can see the tour schedule, which includes stops in Montreal and Toronto, here.
Also, Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala's old post-hardcore group At the Drive-In are set to re-release their Acrobatic Tenement and Relationship of Command LPs this spring. You can read the details here.
