Mark Norman

Colours

BY Sarah FergusonPublished Feb 20, 2008

Holland-based DJ Mark Norman’s Colours (his second artist album) hits home solid. You might wonder what’s unique about it, because this album sounds a lot like some other great trance artists (notably Sasha & Digweed). Of course, in electronica, it makes sense for artists’ sounds to coalesce. Primarily, trance music is produced as singles to be listened to as part of a larger live set mixed by a DJ. And so, if Mark Norman and Sasha & Digweed’s music are close in sound (each with only a subtle selfhood), then it’s conceivably easier for the DJ to mix an even flow or wall of sound during the live experience. Mark Norman follows progressive trance’s melodic beat-backed blueprint but the trance heads will easily recognise his unique weaving and communication of a personal style so aural and sensory it will play with the rainbow space vibes of your heart.
