Seven years after helping form ambient/electronic soundscapers Emeralds, it's been revealed that guitarist Mark McGuire has left the band. The group's Steve Hauschildt took to Twitter earlier today (January 3) to explain that the original three-piece lineup has since been whittle down to a duo.
"It is with much regret that I announce Mark McGuire is no longer a member of Emeralds. We wish him only the best of luck," he wrote, adding, "Emeralds will continue on as a duo consisting of myself and John [Elliott]. Thank you so much for your continued support over the last seven years."
Hauschildt capped the news by noting that he and Elliott will be touring Australia, Europe, Japan and the U.S. this year, with show specifics arriving at a later date.
McGuire has yet to comment on his departure, but it's expected he'll continue working on his solo career in his current home base of Portland, OR, while the remaining members of Emeralds will keep at it in Cleveland, OH.
Formed in 2006, Emeralds issued countless tape releases, EPs and a handful of albums together. Their last studio release, Just to Feel Anything, arrived this past November. McGuire's 2012 output outside of Emeralds included his Nightshade release and a joint LP with Nate Scheible called Certain Circumstances.
