Manic Hispanic

The Recline of Mexican Civilization

BY Rob FerrazPublished Jul 1, 2001

Cheech and Chong and Weird Al Yankovic meet punk rock on this new disk from L.A.'s Manic Hispanic. Putting a different spin on the cover album concept, they deliver renditions of punk classics with a Spanish twist. "White Man in Hammersmith Palais" becomes "Brown Man in O.C. Jail," "Atomic Garden" becomes "Uncle Chato's Garden" and so on. Also included are takes on Social Distortion, the Offspring, Johnny Thunders and Sham 69. With 12 tracks in all, the only downside is, as with most cover records, the novelty wears off before too long.
