Mandy, Indiana Announce Debut Album 'i've seen a way'

Hear the latest single from the Manchester-bred experimentalists

The buzzy, misleadingly named experimental noisemakers Mandy, Indiana — who are actually from Manchester — have announced their debut album, led by strident new single "Pinking Shears."

i've seen a way arrives May 19 via Fire Talk. "Pinking Shears" follows January's previous single "Injury Detail," also included on the 11-track record, which features mixing from Gilla Band's Daniel Fox and Giant Swan's Robin Stewart.

The quartet of Valentine Caufield (vocals), Scott Fair, Simon Catling (synth) and Alex Macdougall (drums) recorded i've seen a way in a smattering of unsuspected places, including caves, crypts and shopping malls. "We wanted to alter textures, create clashes, and craft those moments when what you're expecting to happen never comes," Fair explained in a press release.

They capture this on the new single, where Caufield laments in her native French — repeating "J'suis fatiguée / Tu sais pas que j'suis fatiguée" in spoken word — over a swaggering hip-hop beat, overlaid by sheets of noise.
