A sea of smartphones rising into the air at concerts isn't an unfamiliar scene, but one man might have been pining for a time before mobile distraction by stealing more than 50 cellphones from concertgoers at a Royal Blood gig last month.
As the BBC reports, 22-year-old Alin Marin stole 53 phones from concertgoers in a mosh pit during the band's performance at the Arena Birmingham back on November 18. Wearing a full-body swimsuit, Marin turned himself into a "human deposit box" with the tight-fitting clothing allowing him to keep multiple devices on his person.
West Midlands police said they had received information that thieves had targeted fans at earlier Royal Blood shows this year. Marin was arrested on the street not long after the performance finished, while his stash of stolen phones was located in a nearby parking lot.
Marin was sentenced to three years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (December 18).
Royal Blood delivered their sophomore LP How Did We Get So Dark? earlier this year.
