Makers

The Makers’ identity crisis continues on their latest release. Everybody Rise! has one foot in the band’s garage past and one foot in its glam present. On pop ballads such as "Promises for Tomorrow” and "Run with Me Tonight,” the group show tuneful sophistication. Other songs, however, attempt to reignite the Makers rock’n’roll fuse but ultimately fizzle. For the most part, subdued rasps have replaced the group’s snarls. Everybody Rise! features some well-written songs, but its stability is weakened by standing on uneven ground.
