Majical Cloudz

"Savage"

Months after issuing the spare but sublime Impersonator, Montreal duo Majical Cloudz have unveiled their next single, the equally minimalist and moody "Savage."

The band have been playing the tune onstage throughout 2013, but have now locked it down in recorded form. What we get is a spacious, sombre piano melody lightly being tapped out of the keys, while Devon Welsh paints painful vignettes about acid trips, cracking one's dome on a set of stairs, and love. If you wanted the guy to be more specific about the subject of his personal lyrics, though, guess again.

"The song is written about a specific set of circumstances and experiences, and Matt and I did such-and-such when we recorded it, but ultimately what the song is 'about' is less important than how and why it is meaningful for you when you listen to it," Welsh said in a statement. "Explaining too much about the details of the song is not the point, so I won't."
