Decoding The Soul

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished Mar 1, 2004

It’s been quite some time since I’ve heard anything new from these prog metallers although I suspect that I missed something in between. This new offering is good but rather different from previous recordings; that is pretty logical though, considering it’s been almost six years. They still play power/progressive metal although they have also added a good amount of hard rock style into their sound. The mix works well. There are parts where the band comes across like a heavier, more progressive Rainbow. The musicianship is top-notch and the album is technical and rich musically, with the songs having enough changes in them to keep it interesting. The melodies are good and their singer has done a very good job with the songs. On top of everything, the production is nearly perfect. Fans of the band or of power/progressive metal in general will certainly enjoy this.
