Later this month, Torontonians can celebrate Canada Day on the shores of Lake Ontario at the Harbourfront Centre's Canada Day Extravaganza. Combining a mix of food, fireworks, music and interactive events, the Canada Day Extravaganza is celebrating its 40th year of Canada Day festivities.
A press release for the event details that the Canada Day Extravaganza seeks to bring together and celebrate "visionary artists, thought-provoking ideas, multidisciplinary projects and Toronto's diverse communities." Running from June 27 to July 1, the five-day event is packed with lots of local Canadian acts, drawing from different genres and styles to please every festivalgoer.
Maestro Fresh Wes will headline the fest's Rapper Delight performance, which will feature two-thirds of the original Sugarhill Gang backed by Nigerian rock act Bombino. Jazz legend Jim Galloway and the Wee Big Band will also perform, as will the gospel-tinged Edmonton trio Dirty Dishes and '90s alt-rock crew King Cobb Steelie. To complete the birthday bash, the Toronto All Star Big Band will rock the house, and the SoundClash Music Awards will also take place during the festivities.
Food competitions, film screenings and family-friendly activities will round out the event, including fireworks, a dance battle and more.
