Machinedrum Signs to Ninja Tune

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 15, 2013

Following a series of releases on labels like Planet Mu and LuckyMe, electronic artist Machinedrum (aka Travis Stewart) has announced he's signed with reputable imprint Ninja Tune.

A press release confirms the new business partnership, though it's unclear exactly what the musician's first project for the label will be. Machinedrum's last LP was 2011's Room(s), which received an extended release last year, with other recent releases including his 2012 EP SXLND and a split 12-inch with Sun Ra from earlier this year wherein he covered the influential jazz outfit's "Door of the Cosmos."

"I've always been into Ninja Tune," Stewart told Billboard. "I've always respected their focus on more of a hip-hop and drum 'n' bass kind of world, which is the reason I started Machinedrum in the first place. I was trying to explore the relationship between hip-hop and faster tempos of jungle. I got the sense that they really wanted to help me break into the next level and were going to give me a lot of freedom and help me to come into my own as an artist and not just an electronic musician."

In other news, Stewart's Sepalcure collaboration with producer Braille (aka Praveen Sharma) will issue their next EP Make You April 15 through Hotflush Recordings.
